Luapula Foundation

CRANE’s founding member in Zambia. A local, non-profit making non-governmental organization, Luapula Foundation was founded in October 2001 in Luapula Province.

In the past 20 years, the Foundation has implemented Orphan and Vulnerable Children, HIV Prevention and Care for Vulnerable Children program with support from United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Service Efficiency and Effectiveness for Vulnerable Children and Adolescents (SEEVCA) project sub-granted under UNICEF; Early Childhood Development project funded by Firelight Foundation and Stephen Lewis Foundation, and End Child Marriage project funded by Cotswold Foundation.

Social protection

Luapula Foundation helps create enabling conditions
for adolescents to realize their aspiration and rights
that allow them to thrive. We conduct Social Protection services among the displaced populations.

Humanitarian and Emergency Services

We work on preventing and preparing for human-induced crises and natural disasters. Humanitarian services are focused on restoration of food security and livelihoods in the affected communities.

Key areas of work

Health services

Capacity building of the health frontier staff shall
remain a priority at Luapula Foundation to combat
HIV and COVID-19 infections.

Child Development and Protection

53% of the population is below the age of 18. Being exposed to physical, sexual and emotional violence is traumatic to a child and is associated with future violence, victimization and perpetuation.

Gender

Gender biases can be a disadvantage to girls. Girls participate in decision making both at household
and community level regarding their education,
personal development and violence.

Early Learning and Responsive Caregiving

Children who receive appropriate and adequate health care, nutrition, and stimulation in a secure safe environment grow up to be healthier, more educated adults with better economic and social outcomes in life.

Climate Change

Trees are cut and burned in Zambia to turn into charcoal, resulting in floodings and drought. To mitigate tree cutting, we support fuel management using locally made fuel-efficient stoves that burn grass and shrubs.

Leadership in Control of the Environment

Leadership is all about providing examples to the people you teach and lead. Teachers also planted a seedling each to show commitment in “Climate Change” interventions.

Child Safeguarding and Protection

Child participation increases children’s resilience as
their “self” is strengthened through existing initiatives
such as saving groups. We support children’s
caregivers through “Parenting without Violence”.
