From Widow to Entrepreneur: Empowering
Yvonne Marie to Thrive with VSLA's Support
Meet Yvonne Marie, a resilient and determined woman from Munene/Ngovi. At 48 years old and a mother of six, life had been challenging for Yvonne, with limited means to meet her family's needs after her husband's passing.
I had no possibility of finding where to borrow money to do any activity because in our country we lend money with a high interest rate.
However, her life took a transformative turn when she joined the AVEC group, established by the esteemed organization EBEN-EZER/PLANT WITH PURPOSE. This group introduced her to the world of savings and credit, bringing hope to her dreams of progress.
With newfound knowledge and the support of the VSLA (Village Savings and Loan Association), Yvonne began saving small amounts from her agricultural endeavors. This enabled her to secure a credit of 200,000fc, which she invested wisely into starting a commercial venture - smoked and dried fish trade, fondly called "Mikeke."
The impact was immense. Yvonne's determination and the VSLA's support not only allowed her to educate her four children who are in high school but also provided for their daily needs. Despite life's challenges, Yvonne's unwavering spirit and her thriving business ensured that food and other essentials gradually became accessible.
My widow status does not block my development and my children find food and other needs are gradually satisfied. The benefits of VSLA are innumerable.
The journey was not without obstacles, but Yvonne's inspiring story showcases the innumerable benefits of VSLA. The positive impact of this organization's knowledge and assistance have not only uplifted her life but also laid the foundation for a brighter and more sustainable future.
Today, Yvonne expresses her heartfelt gratitude to the organization that believed in her potential, empowering her to create a better life for herself and her children. Her story stands as a testament to the transformative power of community support and the potential for change when individuals are given the opportunity to shine.
